Discussion about $15 an hour being a minimum wage in BC.

Labour Council Powerpoint

The South Okanagan Boundary Labour Council is hosting a discussion about making $15 an hour the minimum wage in BC.  As you know, both the BC FED and the Federal NDP have announced official campaigns that include a $15 an hour as a minimum wage for working people.

The two hour discussion will take place on Friday May 1st (May Day)  from 6:30pm to 8:30 p.m. at Leir House, 220 Manor Park Ave, Penticton.

Special guests include Aaron Ekman, Sec Treas of the BC Federation of Labour, Richard Cannings, Federal NDP Candidate for the South Okanagan West Kootenay riding and Angelique Wood, Federal NDP Candidate for the Central Okanagan Similkameen-Nicola riding.

This discussion will be a good lead-up to SOBLC’s May Day event the next day, Saturday May 2nd, at Gyro Park Bandshell (10 am to 2 pm).

Let’s make these events successful with your participation.

Take Back the Coast – Penticton

On March 28, NDP MP Nathan Cullen will be hosting a town hall discussion in Penticton to talk with citizens about Nathan’s bill to ban crude oil supertankers on BC’s North Coast, and how British Columbians can act now to stop the Northern Gateway pipeline.

On September 23, Nathan introduced the Act to Defend the Pacific Northwest – a historic piece of legislation to enshrine protections for BC’s North Coast into Canadian law. In addition to banning crude oil supertankers on the North Coast, Nathan’s bill would also look at economic impacts of raw export and increase the amount of community consultation required by the government during pipeline reviews.

Admission is free and all are welcome. Coffee, tea and snacks will be provided.
